TRIBUTE TO SATYAJIT RAY


Satyajit ray has been a great influence on the Cinema Industry. Ray’s first film, Pather Panchali, came to him merely by chance and then went on to become his legacy.  When I saw this movie, it made me curious about more of his works, his life, film, illustrations, and especially the storytelling. Satyajit Ray also created many masterpieces after The Apu Trilogy.

I was much influenced by his work and this led to my topic for this particular campaign. The dialogue from the movie DEVI repeatedly strikes to me i.e. "Ami jodi Debi hoi?" ("What if I am a goddess?)", she asks her husband and questions herself too...... "Tumi jodi Debi hote tumi nije bujhte paarte na? Tumi ki tomar moddhe kono poriborton bujhte paro? Tomar ki mone hoy tumi manush now? Tumi amar stree now?" ("But if you really were a goddess, wouldn't you be aware of it? Do you feel any changes within yourself? Don't you believe you are human anymore? Don't you think you are my wife?"). This gave me an idea to give Tribute to the Legend Satyajit Ray and in this time of digital media, taking Netflix was the best option.


Twenty-five years ago, watching a movie at home involved heading out to a Blockbuster store and renting a DVD. Thanks to Netflix, which was established in 1997, that all changed, and Blockbuster? It’s been out of business since 2010. Netflix began as a novel idea – instead of going out to rent a DVD, order it online and have it delivered to your door, for a mere Rs.330 plus Rs.156  postage. In the decades since Netflix has become so much more than a DVD delivery company.
My target market is young, tech-savvy users, anyone with digital connectivity, and Bollywood 90’s era fans. It also includes teenagers, college-goers, entrepreneurs, working professionals, etc.
